Five night tutored retreat November 12 – 17 for novel writers at Asthall Manor, near Burford, Oxfordshire. Situated in the beautiful Windrush valley, Asthall is a Jacobean gabled manor house and the childhood home of the literary Mitford sisters, now owned by writer and artist Rosie Pearson.
Aimed at writers who are working on a novel and would benefit from some expert tuition and editorial help alongside time and space to write. There will be two afternoon workshops, one with author Tessa Hadley and the other with renowned writer Marcel Theroux as well as one on one sessions with editor Sara Sarre. Tessa and Marcel will also be giving evening readings and there will be a chance to meet Cathryn Summerhayes, a leading literary agent with Curtis Brown.
This is a rare opportunity to stay in a special home steeped in literary history and an inspiring place to write and meet with other like minded souls. The legacy of the Mitfords can be seen and experienced throughout the house and grounds. The gardens surrounding the house are designed by renowned garden designers Julian and Isabel Bannerman. Asthall Manor has become known as the home of on form, a biennial exhibition of sculpture in stone (not running at the time of this retreat).
Accommodation for writers will be in single and shared rooms, many of which feature in the Mitford novels. The cost will be from £795 for tuition, accommodation in a shared room and three delicious meals a day. There is a cost supplement for single occupancy and/or en suite bathrooms. Places are limited so if you are interested in attending please sign up as soon as possible.
