We are delighted to reveal the winners of the BPA Pitch Prize 2023. This year we saw many stories depicting art forgery, unreliable narrators, and the ways artificial intelligence may intrude deeper into our intimate lives…

Our judge, literary agent Millie Hoskins from United Agents, and the team at BPA, thoroughly enjoyed reading so many absorbing pitches, and it was difficult to make the final selection. The ten winners will have a one-to-one with Millie, during which they will have the chance to pitch their novel and receive expert editorial feedback, recommendations, industry insights and, finally, advice on next steps.

Many congratulations to the lucky ten winners:

Plus a well done to the talented 21 writers who reached the longlist:

Anne Farquharson Hugh Blackthorne Rosalind Yarde-Jumbe
Caroline MacFarlane J.A. Velasco Ros Ukoko-Rivers
Catherine Balaq Kate Tindle Sally Sheridan
Clare Reader Collins Katie Huttlestone Sarah F Armstrong

Before you go, Millie noticed that many entrants sent a CV as a cover letter, with little to no mention of the book. Her advice would be to spend some extra time polishing that cover letter to better draw the agent in (see our blog post on How to Write a Stand-Out Cover Letter). Thank you to all who submitted and we wish you the very best with your next steps.

Submissions for the 2024 First Novel Award will open in January.
